HISTORIEN Olof Styrud at Congo River 1946-1960 First period. Madouma. May 1946 – May 1948 TIME FOR MILK Milk distribution is a busy time of day for Pastor Olaf Styrud, his wife Anna-Lisa and the Mission’s cook. But lessons come easier when UNICEF milk has helped to defeat kwashiorkor, the protein-deficiency disease which renders their pupils listless and apathetic. Sometimes the symptoms are even more apparent—swollen stomachs and reddish splotches in the skin and hair. Kwashiorkor means ”red boy” in local dialect. Fourth period. Brazzaville. Olof was very interested in the Poto Poto art school founded 1951 in Brazzaville and supported the young artist by buying their art, he befriended a young artist named Marcel GoTene and bougth paintings from him starting in the 50ies. Myself found some of them in parts of my fathers collection . There is a lot of paintings from other young artists as well .
